Dr. deWitte will be participating in a two-day, by-invitation only workshop on February 15-16, 2024. The event is hosted by the Naval War College and Brookings Institute at Washington D.C.

Workshop attendees include thought leaders who are security scholars or industry experts from military, industry, and academia to focus on emerging economic statecraft due to current international wars that target the supply chain, and as a result, put the world economy at risk.

Established in 1916, the Brookings Institute for Government Research (IGR) was created with the mission of becoming “the first private organization devoted to analyzing public policy issues at the national level.”

“For example, the current conflict in the Mideast has closed regional sea lanes causing cascading consequences in the global economy,” according to Dr. deWitte.

The invitation comes after a presentation at the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, in October 2023 on her book chapter, Maritime Transportation System and Cyber Threats. The book chapter is co-authored with Dr. Matthi Lehto from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland and will be published by the Naval War College in 2024.

Dr. deWitte will contribute her knowledge of the civilian maritime environment. Her participation supports GCRI’s mission of securing the digital world including maritime and the supply chain. She will share the results of the workshop with GCRI to focus on potential research opportunities.
